Bon D. Gordon

Biography

Born in St. Paul Minnesota and raised in Arizona, Bon Gordon attended Instituto Allende in San Miguel Mexico and Occidental College in Los Angeles. An International Studies Fellowship in Painting from the Rockefeller Foundation took her to New Zealand. Bon’s friendship with James K. Baxter, then New Zealand’s Poet Laureate, contributed the literary influence that triggered a shift to abstract imagery. The Pig Island Paintings from this period constituted the first major exhibit on her return to Los Angeles, leading to a degree notation of High Distinction in Fine Arts from Occidental College (1971).

In the early seventies, Bon moved to a remote area in Downeast Maine. The paintings produced there inaugurated her consistently successful series of exhibits on the West Coast. While maintaining her studio in Maine, Bon lived and worked alternately in Los Angeles, San Francisco and most recently Brooklyn. Her work has been widely collected in numerous select private and public collections in the United States and abroad. She now resides in Arizona.
